Italian National Qualification as Full Professor (Automatic Control)
Adjunct Professor, University of L’Aquila — DEWS Center of Excellence
Hello! I received my B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees (summa cum laude), both in Computer and Control Engineering, and my Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Information Engineering (grade: excellent), from the University of L'Aquila, Italy, in 2004, 2007 and 2011, respectively.
I spent research periods at the Ford Motor Company in Aachen, Germany (2007), at the University of California, Berkeley (2008-09) and Santa Barbara (2009-10), and at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm (2011). In 2011-12 I was a Post-doctoral Researcher at the University of L'Aquila, Centre of Excellence for Research DEWS, where I currently hold an external affiliation and am an adjunct professor. In 2012 I joined the Institute for Systems Analysis and Computer Science "A. Ruberti", National Research Council of Italy (CNR-IASI), where I am now a Senior Researcher (Primo Ricercatore) and head of the L'Aquila research unit. I hold the Italian National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor in Automatic Control (09/G1) and as Associate Professor in Mathematical Physics (01/A4).
I am a Senior Member of the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS), an Associate Editor of IEEE Control Systems Letters and of the International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, an Academic Editor of PLOS ONE, and a member of the IEEE-CSS Conference Editorial Board (CEB), the IEEE-CSS Technical Conference Editorial Board (TCEB), the EUCA Conference Editorial Board, the IFAC Technical Committee on Control Design (TC 2.1) and several IEEE-CSS Technical Committees (Healthcare & Medical Systems, Automotive Control, Systems Biology, Hybrid Systems).
I have co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed international publications (about 1450 citations, h-index 19 on Google Scholar); I am principal investigator for CNR-IASI of three funded projects, and I am co-recipient of four international awards, including the "Premium Award 2018 for Best Paper in IET Systems Biology" and two Best Student Paper Awards (IEEE CASE 2024 and IEEE-CSS TC-HMS 2024).
My research interests include hybrid and nonlinear systems, digital control, systems biology, biomathematics, control applications and, more recently, data-driven and AI methods for complex systems.
